Records Management Clerk

Wheatland County is a rural municipality located 40 km east of Calgary. The County is supported by a mixture of agriculture, industrial, oil and gas activity, and community development. The County is experiencing growth resulting in many interesting and challenging community planning and development projects.

Wheatland County is currently seeking a Records Management Clerk. The primary function of the Records Management Clerk is to oversee records management operations including coordinating the efficient and expedient retrieval, filing, and storage of information. The duties performed are of a sensitive and confidential nature.

The position will include the following (refer to website for full job description):

a. Filing, storing, arranging, indexing, digitizing and classifying records. 

b. Scanning of Historical Bylaws & Minutes and uploading into Filepro system.

c. Disposal of records per the approved retention schedule.

d. Assists customers or other County employees with reference work to provide information utilizing the records system.

e. Monitors compliance of records management with current policies and legislation.

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Recognized Records Management Certificate.
  • Knowledge of municipal legislation and relevant statutes.
  • Effective communication skills; written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work in an office environment.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform assigned duties.

Community Peace Officer

Wheatland County is a rural municipality located 40 km east of Calgary. The County is supported by a mixture of agriculture, industrial, oil and gas activity, and community development.

Wheatland County is currently seeking to add another Community Peace Officer to our organization. The Community Peace Officer is responsible for enforcement of Municipal, Provincial and Federal statutes as required, commercial vehicle weights and dimensions, and traffic enforcement.

The position will include the following (refer to website for full job description):

  • Provide protection to County infrastructure, people using that infrastructure and the property served by that infrastructure by enforcing Municipal, Provincial and Federal statutes as required
  • Act as an Emergency Site Manager within Disaster Services
  • Ensure compliance with Municipal Statutes by all departments within Wheatland County
  • Report to Council as required

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Possess or ability to obtain Level 1 Peace Officer Appointment from Alberta Justice
  • Successfully complete Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.,4.45 minutes) within six months
  • Post secondary education in law enforcement
  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills
  • Well developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner
  • The ability to work with municipal Council
  • Knowledge of municipal legislation and relevant statutes
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract

Development Control Officer

Wheatland County is a rural municipality located 40 km east of Calgary.  The County is supported by a mixture of agriculture, industrial, oil and gas activity, and community development.  The County is experiencing growth resulting in many interesting and challenging community planning and development projects.

The County is currently seeking a Development Control Officer. The Development Control Officer is responsible for development and control within Wheatland County, ensuring that development regulations are administered.

The position will include the following (refer to website for full job description):

  • Administer the County’s Land Use Bylaw and ensure that development occurs in compliance with the Municipal Government Act, the statutory plans, bylaws and policies established by the County
  • Processing and presenting development permit applications
  • Working with Council and Council Committees
  • Undertaking economic development initiatives
  • Facilitating public inquiries
  • Site Inspections
  • General development duties

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Post secondary training in land use planning or related discipline; or equivalent experience
  • Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills
  • Well developed interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner
  • The ability to work with municipal Council
  • Knowledge of municipal legislation and relevant statutes
  • Proven overall local government development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
