Part-Time Utility Clerk

Wheatland County is a rural municipality located 40 km east of Calgary.  The County is supported by a mixture of agriculture, industrial, oil and gas activity, and community development.  The County is experiencing growth resulting in many interesting and challenging projects within our organization.

Wheatland County is currently seeking a Part-Time Utility Clerk.  The Utility Clerk position will be responsible for the administration, invoicing, reconciling, and collection of the Utility system (water bills) in accordance with all applicable Provincial Statutes, Municipal Bylaws and other regulatory requirements.

The position will include the following (refer to website for full job description):

  • Process water billings and maintain customer accounts with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Upload meter gun so that Utility Operators can perform reads, download meter gun into system to prepare utility billings.
  • Respond to public inquiries either by phone or in person and assists in providing information on, but not limited to, utility billing questions, payment arrangements, utility complaints and general County services.
  • Provides good customer service and public relations, via correspondence, on the telephone or at the counter.

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma supplemented by the completion of a 2 year Business Diploma program from a recognized Post Secondary Educational Institution.  Equivalencies may be considered.
  • General understanding of municipal government practices and utility billing.
  • Strong knowledge of computers and municipal software programs as well programs such as Excel, Word, Outlook.

In accordance with Wheatland County’s Personnel Policy the successful candidate will be required to submit to a Criminal Records Check and may be subject to pre-employment drug testing.

Agricultural Service Board Seasonal Equipment Operator

Wheatland County is a rural municipality located 40 km east of Calgary.  The County is supported by a mixture of agriculture, industrial, oil and gas activity, and community development.  The County is experiencing growth resulting in many interesting and challenging projects within the Agricultural Service Board Department.

Wheatland County is currently seeking a Seasonal Equipment Operator. The Equipment Operator position will focus primarily on paratilling of completed road construction borrows and mowing of municipal right of ways.

The position will include the following (refer to website for full job description):

  • Operation of various agriculture related equipment as directed.
  • Practice equipment preventative maintenance such as oil checking and greasing of implements.
  • Notify Assistant Agricultural Fieldman or Shop Foreman of any necessary repairs.
  • Practice workplace safety.

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Must be able to operate a variety of agricultural equipment such as tractors, mowers, trucks and trailers, all terrain vehicles, seeding, tillage and spraying equipment.
  • Agricultural Equipment operation experience is an asset but on the job training will be provided.
  • Requires Class 5 license with Q endorsement.

In accordance with Wheatland County’s Personnel Policy the successful candidate will be required to supply a current driver’s abstract and submit to a Criminal Records Check as well as pre-employment drug testing.

Grade Foreman

Wheatland County is a rural municipality located 40 km east of Calgary.  The County is supported by a mixture of agriculture, industrial, oil and gas activity, and community development.  The County is experiencing growth resulting in many interesting and challenging projects within the Public Works Department.

The County is currently seeking a Grade Foreman. The Grade Foreman is a leader on the Construction Crew and is responsible for the day to day operation of the dirt moving equipment on that crew.

The position will include the following (refer to website for full job description):

  • Set up grade stakes as required.
  • Keep time sheets and weekly reports.
  • Monitor culverts and installation.
  • Monitor day to day activities of the dirt moving equipment.
  • Operate heavy equipment as required.
  • Notify Construction Foreman or Shop Foreman of any necessary repairs.
  • Practice workplace safety.

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Physically fit and in good health.
  • Requires Class 3 license with Q endorsement.
  • Must be able to operate grade lasers.
  • Must be able to read road profiles.
  • Must be able to operate Cat D6, Cat 627 Scraper, and Cat 14 grader.
  • Must have basic knowledge of OH&S guidelines.
